Pipe Bends and Glass Bends

Wear resistant piping components

Piping systems consisting of conveying pipes, stainless steel pipe bends, glass bends and pipe connectors are an essential component of granulate conveying systems. These components make up the pipelines used to transport plastic granulates from silos, octabins and granulate containers to the processing machines. In addition, vacuum lines are required to provide the necessary vacuum for pneumatic conveying at the material separators and conveying equipment.

In addition to straight granulate conveying lines, pipe bends play an important role in order to be able to install deflections and curved sections adapted to the conditions of the processing plant. The quality of the pipe bends and their connections are essential for the operational reliability and longevity of any granulate conveying system.

Pipe bends for plastics processing are available in stainless steel (VA) and glass as well as in different radii and diameters. Stainless steel pipe bends are predominantly used in granulate conveying lines and are available in the following sizes, for example:

  • Nominal diameter 40 mm
    • Radii: 100 mm / 250 mm / 500 mm
    • Angles: 45° / 60° and 90
  • Nominal diameter 50 mm
    • Radii: 100 mm / 250 mm / 500 mm
    • Angles: 45° / 60° and 90°
  • Nominal diameter 60 mm
    • Radii: 120 mm / 250 mm / 500 mm
    • Angles: 45° and 90
  • Nominal diameter 70 mm
    • Radii: 500 mm / 800 mm / 1000 mm
    • Angles: 45° and 90
  • Other bend sizes and fittings on request

In order to minimise wear in the piping system when conveying abrasive materials, glass bends are the ideal solution. These have proven themselves for many years in granulate conveying systems where glass-fibre reinforced or mineral-reinforced plastic granulates are the order of the day. Without glass bends, undesired wear and pitting would occur in the curved sections of such conveying systems. Glass bends are available in the following sizes, among others:

  • Nominal diameter 40 mm
    • Outer Ø: 47.0 mm x wall thickness 5.0 mm
    • Radii: 250 mm and 500 mm
    • Angles: 45° and 90
  • Nominal diameter 50 mm
    • Outer Ø: 56.0 mm x wall thickness 5.0 mm
    • Radii: 250 mm and 500 mm
    • Angle: 45° and 90
  • Nominal diameter 60 mm
    • Outer Ø: 66.0 mm x wall thickness 5.0 mm
    • Radii: 250 mm and 500 mm
    • Angle: 45° and 90
  • Other bend sizes and fittings on request

Advantages of glass bends:

  • Made entirely of thick-walled borosilicate glass
  • Very wear resistant and easy to install
  • Equipped with copper earthing strip
  • This allows static charge to be dissipated as with stainless steel arches

Digicolor takes over the complete project planning, design and installation of pellet conveying lines in plastic processing plants. We advise you on the selection of suitable pipes and pipe bends as well as the optimal piping and installation of your granulate conveying system.
